DIY Flower Centerpiece {Galentine’s Edition}

As I am sure many of you saw, the second annual Raleigh Blog Society’s Galentine’s Brunch was held last week and it was absolutely beautiful!! I have to say, though, my favorite part of the decor was the centerpiece. Instead of simply ordering a bouquet, Meghan and I decided to create it ourselves and I think it turned out perfectly!
So, in case if you are interested in doing the same, I figured I’d provide a quick DIY post!  
Step 1) Gather your materials. You will need:
    1 Low sitting vase
    1 Floral foam ball (that fits snugly in your vase)
    1 Growers bunch of Eucalyptus
    1 Dozen white Ranunculus
    1 Dozen light pink Ranunculus
    1 Dozen dark pink Ranunculus 
Step 2) Shave down foam and start adding base foliage. 
Ideally, the foam will be just in line with the top of the vase so shave off as much from the bottom as needed. Soak it in water and then place it in the vase. Start building the “base” of the arrangement. I like to do this by putting about four stems of eucalyptus on the left side of the arrangement and creating a “spilling” effect. (Stick them in at about a 45 degree angle on the ball and let them naturally drape to the table.) Do the same on the other side of the arrangement but, with less drape. (The asymmetrical look will create interest.)
Then take two flowers of the same color and place them next to each other on the left side of the arrangement. Stagger the other two colored flowers near the original flowers. Insert a few spare, unbosomed buds between the flowers and the eucalyptus.
  
Step 3) Continue adding flowers, creating a swooping path.
There’s not really a method to this madness. Just do what feels and looks right. As you can see we have some what of a reverse S shape going on here and I think it works really well. You want to create movement and height variation. (I like to add a couple of random flowers – like the ones on the right – at varying heights to create a light and airy feel.)
Step 4) Insert left over greenery and smaller buds to areas that are sparse. Do so at varying heights.

Centerpieces can be tough because there often isn’t really a “front.” With this in mind, it is incredibly important that your arrangement doesn’t have any bald spots. Filing in the arrangement with additional items, including small buds will help it look really organic!

Step 5) Style it to perfection!

Place your beautiful creation in the center of a table and style it with your favorite glassware, china and candles! We chose to use a piece of soft pink cotton fabric to drape under the arrangement as a table runner. It created a delicate, romantic feel.

  8. This is an incredibly helpful DIY. Flower arrangements are often viewed as a complicated decoration for any table, but your DIY shows that anyone can create a beautiful, flower masterpiece!

  21. I am so glad that you posted this! I loved the centerpiece from the photos y'all shared of the brunch, but figured that it came from a florist. I've always wanted to get better at floral arrangement, so this is a great starting point 🙂
