Summer Scarf

Dress: TJ Maxx {old, also loving} // Scarf: Pashmina Perfection
Wedges: Steve Madden {also loving} // Watch: Michael Kors {similar}
Bracelet: Stella & Dot // Sunnies: TJ Maxx {obvi loving these, though}

You guys know how much I've been loving scarves this season and this look is just further proof! I've had this scarf in my closet for a couple of months now, but I kept waiting to post it until I had the perfect outfit to go with it. Well, I think pairing it with this flowing dress is just that. The dark blue is perfect at bringing out the pinks and neon green. Isn't it funny how some of the most "perfect" looks are the simplest?!

Printed Pom Pom Shorts

Top: Borrowed from Sharon {wishing I'd styled it with this one}
Shorts: Madison {Raleigh location} // Wedges: Steve Madden
Necklace: Frill {also loving} // Watch: Michael Kors {similar
Tassel Bracelet: I made it // Sunnies: Cole Haan

I'm obsessed with anything that has tassels or pom poms! I think they are so darn cute!! The problem I have, though, is that so many of the pom pom shorts I've found so far are either solids or simple prints. But you guys know me, I wanted something with more of a pop. So when I saw these at Madison the other day, I practically lost it! They have an adorable print and the pom poms are turquoise!!! They colors tied in perfectly with my aqua accessories. Don't you agree!?

Neon Casual

Dress: J.Crew {borrowed from Sharon, similar here and here}
Blue Bracelet: For Your Convenience Boutique {gift, also loving}
Purse: old {similar, similar} // Shoes: BCBG // Lips: Baby Soft in Pink Punch

Bright colors are my thing. {As I'm sure you'll have figured out by now haha.} So when I saw this dress on Sharon, I immediately asked to borrow it. I love how effortless the fit is, but how much of a statement it still makes. When I put the dress on, though, regardless of how much of a pop the color made, I still felt like the look was missing something... It was missing a pop of contrast!

I started by adding the bracelet and the sunglasses, but even then the look felt very one dimensional. So, I went to my {now} old faithful, my neon watercolor scarf! When I added it to the outfit, I knew that's what had been missing. Don't you think it ties the entire contrast together!?

My Fight With Cancer

Top: A'Gaci // Jeans: H&M // Necklaces: Frill and Moon & Lola via Frill
 Watch: Michael Kors (similar) // Bracelet: Stella & Dot

Last week, I mentioned that I'd had the great pleasure of speaking at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk Raleigh kick off event. When I mentioned that, a couple of you asked about my journey with cancer, so I figure we'd get a little personal on the blog today and I'd share my LLS bio. Obviously, my fight with cancer was fairly long, but this bio gives a great summary of my diagnosis, treatment and experience.

It was just three days before my sixth birthday that my parents received a call from my Kindergarten teacher saying, “You need to take your daughter to the doctor and get blood tests done immediately.”

For weeks, the symptoms had begun to show – flu like symptoms, unexplained bruises, all the typical stuff - but doctors had yet to put the dots together. Instead they would look me over and say, “it’s just one of those things that kids get.” They prescribed antibiotics and assured us that whatever it was would be gone in no time. It was my Kindergarten teacher, whose sister had recently been diagnosed with Leukemia, that recognized the signs and figured it out.

Sure enough, the day my teacher called was the day I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. I was treated for two years and two months and underwent five rounds of chemotherapy. It was a long fight, but the support that I received from my family, friends and doctors was truly amazing.

In May of 1999 I was told that I was in complete remission and I have been cancer free ever since! This year marks my 16th anniversary of my full remission diagnosis! I celebrate my life by helping others with their fight. I strive to empower those that are experiencing cancer first-hand by promoting organizations like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The cancer awareness, education and research that are funded through Light the Night Walk is vital to the continued goal of having a cancer free world. I am so honored to be here today and to be one of the 2015 Honored Heroes! Please join me in this fight so we can continue to save lives!
