Real Talk Wednesday: Enough is Enough

Real Talk Wednesdays: A new series of posts every couple of weeks where I will be laying it all on the table, offering my advice, or setting the record straight about whatever seems to be on my mind.

At what age are we taught to hate? At what point in our life is it instilled in us that in order to be successful, important or accepted we must belittle others. That lashing out is not only condoned, but encouraged? That somehow these actions will in turn raise our own self-worth?

The answer is simple. I don’t know.

What I do know though, is that hate is a learned behavior. It is something we are taught from a very young age and it only grows more pronounced over time if it is not nipped in the bud.

What I also know, is that my momma taught me better than that.

My uncle shared a quote with me recently in regards to business that really stuck with me, and I think it is quite fitting with regards to behavior, as well. This:

{Quote by JFK}

I have been a fighter all my life. I had cancer as a child. During that time, I fought for acceptance in my appearance, improvement in my health, and quite frankly, for my life. I am an entrepreneur. In this I fight regularly for respect, sales and growth. There are more examples of course, but the point is simple. We all have our own battles and we always will. But the way in which we handle them is how we will define ourselves.

We do not need to put others down or make others feel less-than in order to build our own self-worth. Instead I let us pursue the opposite. Let’s empower one another and raise each other up.

Actions speak louder than words. We learn hate by the actions of those around us and we learn kindness by the same. So today I want to dedicate this post to all of the women that I am impressed by, jealous of, or aspire to be. This one's for you. I want to praise you on your accomplishments, take note of your victories, learn from your successes. Because there is nothing that I can gain by putting you down and I hope you will remember the same.

Work Dress for $26!

Striped tee dress $26 {on sale 40% right now too!}
 Gold bar sunglasses {$17} // Coral tote bag {old, similar here}

I just got back from Savannah, GA and I have to say, I miss it already! As a southern gal, Savannah has always seemed to have a pull on me. The Spanish moss, the architecture, the history - I absolutely love it there!

I will be headed back to work tomorrow, so on the topic of work I thought I'd introduce one of my favorite pieces for office wear. This dress is perfect for business casual, running errands or going on a date! It's transitional and more importantly, it's affordable! Normally the dress is $26, but until the end of today everything at Old Navy and Gap is 40% off with promo code COOL40. Hurry and shop it before the sale ends!

Happy Monday!

Don't panic... There is still plenty of summer left! That said, it's never too early to start gathering staples for your fall wardrobe, though. Here are my top picks for the transition between summer and fall. They are great staples and can so easily be worked into other everyday looks!

Colorful Summer with Mara Hoffman

Embroidered Mexican top {from Mexico, similar here & here both under $35}
Green and blue mirrored aviator sunglasses {nicer ones here}

Confession: I'm a swimsuit snob. Do not misunderstand, this does not mean that I spend a fortune on each piece... It simply means that I don't want to be wearing the same suit as ever other person!

I like suits that are different. Most specifically, I LOVE finding brightly printed ones! My favorites right now? Any swimsuit by Mara Hoffman! This designer nails it every year! Her cuts are perfection, her prints are fun, I just can't get enough! Pair them with some cut off shorts and you are ready for the beach!

Who is your favorite swimwear designer right now?!

{For Men} Bright Summer Staples

Green sport coat {similar here & here both under $50} // White button up

You all loved my last guy guest post look, so I figured I'd share another one!

Everyone, meet Stuart! Stuart and I have been friends for about a year now because we both attend the same awesome church! He is a photographer so you can normally find him on the other side of the camera, but kindly he agreed to switch it up for me today!

Stuart wore this look to church during the Masters and I, even then, told him it was,"very blog-worthy." So when I was lining up the next male post/look I knew exactly which one to go back to! I love the mix of colors, but the simplicity of the look as a whole. It's so perfect for summer!

I hope you have a great start to your week!

Sunny Yellow Lace Dress

Leather satchel {old, similar}

Huge thanks to Logan's Garden Shop for letting me take pictures at your store!

In case you haven't picked up on it, I am loving anything lace right now, especially lace dresses! They are so delicate and feminine. I could simply wear one every day!

Another thing I love during the summer?! Gardening! Maybe it's just the creative in me, but I don't think there is anything more satisfying than turning nothing into something... Watching something grow. Ahh I get excited just thinking about it. {Plus, have you ever had a homegrown tomato?! They are the best ever!} That said, Logan's is one of my favorite places all year round, but especially in the summer. Everything is in full bloom and everyone that works there is a professional so questions are encouraged. Gardening not your thing? Check out their adorable cafe! I go there for lunch all the time!

Have a great end to your week!
