Winter Neutrals

Sweater: H&M (last season, similar) // Vest: Zara (sold out, also loving)
Jeans: Uniqlo // Purse: Bought at market (contact me if you really want one)
Boots: J.Crew (old, borrowed from Sharon, similar)
Necklace: Frill // Bracelet: Frill

Sorry for the lack of outfit posts, y'all! The weather has been nasty here lately, I've been having trouble getting motivated to get out and shoot. (Although, I feel like I don't have much of an excuse compared to the people stuck up North right now.) Anyway, during the winter I try to keep my energy up by stocking my wardrobe full of fun colors, but sometimes you just have to go back to the basics! I love this look because it is so classic and transitional. The camel tones are so easy and I love the simple pop that the vest's quilted texture adds. The best throw-and-go outfit I have, for sure!

Sassy Sunday: The Unspoken Rules of Wearing Bright Lipstick

Left Lipstick: Born Pretty Store in #1 // Pink Necklace: J.Crew (old)
Crystal Necklace: Frill (will be on site soon)
Right Lipstick: NYX in Shocking Pink

If you're like me, then you love brightly colored lip finishes. They have become extremely popular lately and in general, they look great. That said, I think there is a lot that no one has mentioned in regards to lipstick application and preparation. So as a stylish and outspoken blogger, I feel it is my duty to point out a couple of things that everyone needs to do to perfect their lipstick game. So here goes.

1) Wax your upper lip.
Yep, I just went there. As taboo as it may be, someone needs to say it. So, let me be the first to admit, I get my lip waxed. In fact, most girls do. Hair grows on your upper lip, fact. It needs to be waxed, fact. There is no shame in waxing your lip, unless of course, you don't wax it. Because that is shameful. You can have the most beautiful lipstick on, but the hint of a mustache can ruin any look.

2) Whiten your teeth.
When you slide on lipstick, you are not only adding a pop of color to your lips, but you are also accenting your smile. Highlighting a dull or yellow smile is not a good look. So, make sure your teeth are pearly white before applying an accent color.

3) Exfoliate your lips.
I know it's cold outside and it's easy for your lips to get chapped, but before applying your favorite color, it is essential that you exfoliate your lips. Lipstick clinging to flaky peel of skin is not cute. Use a product that has texture (I personally use Mary Kay Lip Mask), let it set and then rub it off with a textured wash cloth. That should make them baby soft!

4) Prime and line.
After exfoliating, make sure to moisturize! Adding a primer and moisturizer in one is the perfect base for lipstick. Before putting tube to lip, though, make sure you line your lips! If you do not have a lip pencil to match what you are using, simply take a thin brush and use the lipstick itself to line your lips. Then set it into place and apply the rest of your coverage. No one wants lipstick bleeding.

5) Contour if needed.
If you have thin lips, be sure to add the illusion of fullness through contouring. After all, two bright, thin lines don't look all that flattering. Simply add a darker stain to the corners of the mouth and a lighter one in the center front to make more of a pout. I do it all the time and it works wonders!

Bonus Advice: Do not wear brightly colored lipstick in large groups. What was it, Workaholics that said "Only one fedora per group"? Same rule applies.
A group of girls all wearing bright lipstick can look a bit busy and quite frankly can look a bit like everyone is trying to hard. So avoid the Crayon box look and take turns making a statement.

Additional Advice: (Learned this one the hard way this week.) If you are sick and blowing your nose a lot, do not wear lipstick. When you blow your nose, you will subsequently then also also wipe off the lipstick from your upper lip. It will smear and make a mess, and it will make your bottom lip look crazy. So, just wait until you are well to avoid the hassle.

Please note that all of this is said in fun and all based out of personal experience. Hope you guys enjoyed my "rules" and let me know if you think I missed any!

Panama Hat

Top: Borrowed from Chelsea (identical) // Skirt: Forever 21 (similar)
Tights: Urban Outfitters (also loving) // Booties: DSW
Hat: Charming Charlies (out of stock, similar)

It's been pretty chilly here lately, so I've been wearing tights with almost all of my skirt outfits. Most of the time I wear extremely opaque tights, but I have grown extremely fond of this style this season. I love that they are a statement piece instead of something that just blends in. Don't you agree!?

Born Pretty Store Lipstick Review

As I am sure you can tell from some of my most recent posts, I have gotten very fond of brightly colored lipsticks lately. So today I wanted to review one of my new go-to lip products.

Born Pretty’s Almonds Oil Natural Cream Moisture Gloss Lipstick in Color #1

Shine:
On a scale of Jazz Dance Performer to Chalky Mess (which yes, I feel like is the perfect scale for lipstick shine) this lipstick falls perfectly in the middle. Although I typically tend to lean more towards matte lip finishes, this one has definitely won me over.  It has the most amazing, delicate sheen! The finish picks up the light perfectly, but at the same time, doesn’t make you feel overly done up.
     Rating: 5/5

Moisture:
This is something Born Pretty stresses a lot with relation to this product and I extremely happy with the amount of moisturizing this lipstick provides. Generally, when applying lipstick, I apply a moisturizing finish separately. I wore this lipstick all day and didn’t apply a single layer of lip balm.
     Rating: 5/5

Color Accuracy:
Especially when shopping online, it can be difficult to ensure color accuracy for lipstick. Countless times, I have purchased a lip product, either online or in closed packaging, and found that the color shown is quite different from what the product looks like once applied. This was not the case with this product. The color shown on the screen was extremely close to what the applied product looked like.
     Rating: 5/5

Coverage:
When I first applied this lipstick, I was surprised by how lightly it went on. Compared to the lipsticks that go on heavily, though, I quite like it! Instead of applying and trying to evenly dab off what you don’t want, you can build it to the coverage of you choice. I can see how other people might not be as fond of this,  but I like the fact that I am in control of the amount being applied.
     Rating: 4/5

Long wear:
This is one of the things that I look for most in a lip product. Will I have to reapply all day? With this product, the answer is no. I applied Born Pretty’s Almonds Oil lipstick around noon and wore it for the rest of the day. An hour after applying, I drank a coffee and there was practically no transfer to the lid! The longer I wore it, the more I liked it!
     Rating: 5/5

Overview:
I am ecstatic over this product! It has a soft sheen that is perfect for both shiny and matte lipstick lovers alike. It has moisture and coverage that lasts for hours and a pigmentation that lets you build and apply to your heart’s content. Best of all, though? The price!! At $4.26, this lipstick comes in lower than most drug store brands. Plus, it’s on sale right now for only $2.56!!

Pleated Midi Skirt

Top: Target (sold out, similar) // Skirt: Express
Necklace: J.Crew (old, similar) // Shoes: C.Wonder (similar)
Clutch: Forever 21 (similar)

A couple of weeks ago, my family and I visited my grandparents in Savannah, GA. I absolutely love Savannah for so many reasons! I love the architecture and the history, but one of my favorite parts is River Street. The cobblestone streets are adorable, plus it has one of the best candy stores around! (Have you ever tried a praline from River Street Sweets? *Sigh* It's amazing!)

I had my eye on this skirt for quite a while, but was turned off by the price. One of my friends dragged me out to their after Christmas sale, though, and was able to snag it for 50% off!! Definitely worth it!

Huge thanks to my Mom for taking these pics!

Pink Puffer Vest

Top: Target (borrowed from Sharon) // Vest: Bluetique Cheap Chic (c/o Chapel Hill location) // Jeans: Uniqlo // Boots: J.Crew (borrowed from Sharon, similar
Necklace: Frill (similar) // Lips: NYX Matte Lipstick in Shocking Pink

Even with news as big as Shark Tank, the outfit posts won't stop! haha. I pulled and shot this look a couple of weeks ago and I have to say, I think this is going to be one of my favorite looks of the year. I love the fact that the pink runs through the entire outfit - the vest, the top, the lips and even the nails. Pink is definitely going to be one my favorite colors this season!
