A Year In Review + 2014 Resolution

Wow! Is it just me, or did 2013 fly by?! I feel like it was just yesterday that I was in Nashville ringing in this past NYE!

(Yes I'm wearing knee high boots, and yes, I am aware of the fact that it looks like I have no pants on. New Years is a sassy attire occasion, OK?!.)

I've had so many amazing things happen this year, and I have even more planned for 2014 - I am itching with excitement! Before getting onto my New Year's resolutions and goals, though, I think it's extremely important to take a step back and pride myself on all that I have accomplished this year. (Please note that Frill's successes are also listed below. Sharon and I worked our little booties off this year and we have grown by leaps and bounds!! I am so proud of us, I just have to put it all on paper!)

So, this year, I:
  • Took 18 hours, while working a full time job, and maintained a 3.44 GPA
  • Went off jumps & rails at the mountain terrain parks (without breaking any bones!)
  • Graduated college
  • Passed the 2 year mark with my boyfriend (2 years is the longest relationship I've ever been in - whoop whoop)
  • Moved into my own place/started paying all of my own bills (and yikes it's scary!)
  • Became mommy to an adorable pup
Of course she's wearing a Frill necklace!

This year, Sharon & I have:
  • Managed 20 sorority accounts! (We had 5 in 2013, if that puts things in perspective.)
  • Added a bridal division to Frill
  • Connected with the wonderful ladies at Southern Bride & Groom Magazine
  • Went to market for the first time, as buyers
  • Added a boutique division to Frill
  • Launched an ecommerce website
  • Moved into our first office
  • Moved out & moved into our second office
  • Hosted multiple trunk shows
  • Connected with the lovely women of Southern Wedding Magazine
  • Started an amazing collaboration with Simply Put Vintage Rentals
  • So much more - I'm sure I'm forgetting things

One of our two annual Elon trunk shows.

So now, that all of that is out of the way, onto the good stuff - the resolutions and goals for 2014!!

PS - Please excuse the mess. The blog is getting a make over!!

Best wishes in the new year!

Blue & Turquoise Plaid

Shirt: Target // Skirt: J.Crew // Shoes: J.Crew //
Necklace: J.Crew (similar here & here) // Bracelets: J.Crew & Frill

I'm not the biggest fan of girls wearing plaid. I love when guys wear plaid. And girls wearing plaid has grown on me. But I've come to realize that there is a fine line between girls looking cute in plaid, and girls looking like they just raided their man's closet for something to throw on.

Good news - I've figured out the key to a cute plaid! It's not the print, or even the color (although that does help), but how you style it.  You have to make the plaid look cute! Pair it with girlie accessories. Throw on some pearls and slip on some heels and TA-DA your plaid outfit goes from ratchet to adorable. You're welcome. You can now perfectly master the flannel this fall. hahah Hope you guys are loving this fall weather as much as I am!!

Yellow Jacket

Jacket: J.Crew (old) // T-Shirt: Old Navy (similar here & here) // Jeans: H&M // Clutch: J.Crew (old) //
Shoes: J.Crew // Bracelets: J.Crew (cheaper here)  & Frill // Necklace: Frill

My favorite part of Fall is the changing of the leaves. I absolutely love the color combinations and this outfit was definitely inspired by that. Hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather as much as I am. Happy Fall!

Maroon Sweater & Gold Tassel Necklace

Sweater: J.Crew (Out of stock, similar here) // Cami: Target // Jeans: H&M // Shoes: Target (old)  //
Bag: Michael Kors (similar here) // Necklace: Frill (out of stock, but email us to pre-order) // Watch: Michael Kors (similar here and here) // Lipstick: Wet & Wild

I feel like maroon is one of those colors that can easily go from fab to drab, depending on the garment. Oversized grandma sweater in a maroon print? Drab. Cute sweater with matching maroon lipstick? Definitely fab. haha.

In case you can't tell, I've been trying to step up my lip game this fall. I've been saying so long to neutral lips, and hello to pops of color. They don't have to be outrageous colors, just some color.  With winter weather right around the corner and summer tans fading, lipstick is the perfect way to pack a little punch. So go for a FAB maroon lipstick and pop some color into your fall and winter ensembles.

Fall Fedora

Top: Francesca's old // Sweater: J.Crew old (similar here and here) // Skirt: H&M old (similar here) //
Hat: H&M  // Bag: Michael Kors // Rings: H&M (in store only, similar here) //Bracelets: J.Crew old

This is one of my favorite fall trends - the fedora! I fell in love with this look on my favorite blogger's site, The Pink Peonies, but I never thought it was a look I would pull off. When I saw this hat at H&M, though, I decided to try it and I've been hooked ever since! Fall is the perfect time to wear hats. So, get out of your comfort zone and go try some for yourself! You never know what might become your new favorite accessory.

Fur Ball

Dress: Express old (similar here and here) // Shoes: Target (similar here and here) //
Earrings: Vera Wang // Bracelet: J.Crew (similar here)

Last weekend I was invited to the SPCA's top fundraiser of the year, the Wake County Fur Ball. A combination of silent and live auctions, the event raised money to support the cost of the SPCA, and to save the lives of hundreds of homeless pets. Supported 100% by donations, the SPCA calls the Fur Ball the "most important night of the year for homeless pets in Wake County."

Didn't make it to the event, but still want to make a difference? Visit the Wake County SPCA's website and make your donation!

End of Summer Aztec

Dress: Frill, Necklace: Frill, Shoes: Target old (similar here),
Clutch: Melie Bianco old (similar here and here), Nails: Essie Blanc

Two weekends ago, the weather was absolutely beautiful! So when my bestie came into town, this is the dress I sported to dinner!  I am obsessed with aztec prints this year, as it seems everyone is, and I love this print. I am always one to love a bright pop of color, so when we saw this dress at market with the bow-detail back, we knew we needed to have it!

Stay tuned for fall aztec-inspired looks and be sure to check out Frill Clothing's boutique section for the newest arrivals!

White Pants on Labor Day

Shirt: J.Crew, Pants: TJ Maxx (similar here, here and here), Necklace: FrillBelt: Target,
Shoes: Jack Rogers, Clutch: Forever 21 (similar here)

No white after Labor Day - We've all heard it a thousand times. But that statement is so vague, what does it really mean!? Does it mean no more white pants? No more white dresses? Surely it can't mean no white altogether, right?!

I'm going to break it down for you nice and simple - there is not set in stone rule!! No white after Labor Day means whatever you want it to mean. No stranger on the street is going to stop you and say "OMG it's after Labor Day and you're wearing white!!" So, if it's hot outside and you want to wear white shorts, by all means, wear them.

If you are still concerned about it, though, this is how I translate it. No more white bottoms (pants, skirts, shorts, etc.) and no more white, summery dresses after Labor Day. It just doesn't look quite right to wear white pants when its cold outside.

Hope that helped a little!

Time Square Outfit

Dress: Frill, Shoes: J.Crew (similar here), Earrings: Frill

For my graduation present, my Mom and I went to NYC. She had never been before, and since I normally go for work, it was nice to take time to simply shop and do touristy things. Among these things, we of course went to both Time Square and a Broadway show. This was the outfit I wore!

I am obsessed with these shoes and when I saw the new Frill earrings, I knew I had to pair the two together. Since I love pops of color, I figured a white dress would be the perfect way to accentuate these statement accessories.

Thanks for visiting!
